You can now easily transfer your Facebook data to other platforms

Back in 2018, multiple big tech firms such as Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, and Google teamed up to launch the open source Data Transfer Project (DTP). Its aim is to make it easier for customers to transfer their data across services and platforms. To that end, Facebook announced tools – such as Transfer Your Information (TYI) – that make it easier to export notes, posts, and media content to other platforms. Now, it has revamped TYI and added several new features.

Facebook has stated that it has rebuilt TYI from the ground up in the past few months. The emphasis this time around was on simplifying the user experience which is why the entire UI has been revamped to make it more intuitive. Photobucket and Google Calendar have been added as two new destinations for your data exports. It is now also possible to export Facebook Events data.

Furthermore, the firm has introduced more transparency when it comes to displaying the status of each transfer. This means that it is now easier to retry transfers if they fail for some reason. Multiple simultaneous transfers to the same destination can now be initiated and more filters have been added so people have more granular control over what data they want to transfer.

Facebook has highlighted another interesting point as well. It says that while it is working with developers and companies to add new destinations to which data can be securely and safely transferred, it is also currently investigating with government and regulatory authorities about who should be responsible for data in transit.
